On our way out, lets take a look at the walking mechanism. The leg you see here is attached to one of the walking shoes. The shoes raise the rear edge of the tub about a foot off of the ground, and shove the machine backwards about 6 feet. All walking draglines can only move straight back. When you want to turn, the upper structure must be turned so that the rear of the machine faces the direction you want to take.
