The 950B stripping coal.

The 950 B's four sets of crawlers, with independant "automatic" leveling cylinders allowed rotating machinery deck to remain level, even though the machine may have been sitting on a slope or uneven ground. This reduced the power necessary to swing the machine, since it was never forced to swing "Up hill".

These crawlers were connected in pairs ( 2 front & 2 rear) to hydraulic steering cylinders. This arrangement allowed the front and rear of the machine to be steered independently. This greatly increased the manuverability of the machine, allowing it to make tighter turns in the pit and follow ground contours and property lines more closely.
